About us
Rio Grande Meadowlark Ranch is located in a remote area 25 miles southwest of Fort Garland at the base of the San Luis Hills. The ranch is a closed system, making us free of most diseases. We have an all natural program. It is at an altitude of 7,700 ft at the east edge of the San Luis Valley in south central Colorado. The ranch raises pure bred Gelbvieh cattle and Gelbieh crosses - including Balancers. These bulls are excellent to use with english breeds or alone. The ranch encompasses 8,000 acres of grazing land. In addition San Luis Hills farm which is part of the operation grows summer pasture of rye and triticale for the cattle at the ranch. Mundorf packing, also part of the operation provides cull potatoes which is mixed with forages to produce an excellent feed ration. The ranch was started in 1974 by a partnership of German families. The four way enterprise of seed potato farm, commercial potato farm, modern fresh pack facility and cattle ranch offer unique opportunities.
Bulls
Rio Grande Meadowlark Ranch offers yearling Gelbvieh and Balancer bulls for sale. Raised in the high mountain climate of the San Luis Valley. Black or red, many poled. Aproximate average weight is 1000 lbs and the are tested for fertility, pap, BVDPI and trich. We have some of the most outstanding PAP scores in our bulls. We feature some of the top bloodlines in the Gelbvieh breed, such as Rolls Royce, one of the leaders in maternal traits, as well as bloodline of Carbon Copy. We also use A.I. bulls such as Carolina Rock'n and Boo Boo from A.B.S. with new lines to be added this year.
